Heart Butte Trading Post established April 16th 2002.
Heart Butte is nestled among the foothills of the Great Majestic Rocky Mountains and is surrounded with spectacular views in all directions.
Heart Butte and surrounding area has a population of approximately 699 and consists of a small clinic, Post Office, high school and elementary school, senior citizen center, 3 churches, a community center, 2 snack shops, Omie’s pizza, Feather Woman Enterprises and the Heart Butte Trading Post.
Our line of art and beadwork is crafted by local artists, illustrating the beauty of our landscape and the many talents of our artists in our community. Most of these talents have been handed down through the generations from their ancestors. Some of our crafters have carried on some of the traditional techniques taught them and some have branched off adding a more contemporary line of work, or combining the 2. Some use the landscape as a canvas for their work and some have actually used the landscape in their work. As in the Indian seed beads used by the Big Badger Blackfeet Ladies. Some products have all natural fibers, while some have a mixture of nature and man made items. Sometimes the creativity of our crafters exceeds all expectations. In a community of virtually no jobs it is important for many of us to “create” our own living. Most of our beadwork that we sell has been traded for groceries or necessities or brought in on consignment
We are also working on establishing Heart Butte’s first historical society. We gather local history and old pictures of Heart Butte and their residents, in an effort for our children and future generations to know their history and their roots. Our interests and gathering of our own family histories has spurred the interest in our community history. We have found so many interested and interesting people to help us in this project.
Through your purchases you help a small community in their efforts to be self supporting.
